[ rujukan diperlukan ] Rakaman album studio keempat mereka, tahun 1986 Dari Kemewahan hingga Sakit Hati (No. 10 UK, No. 32 AS) berlarutan begitu lama sehingga produser Arif Mardin terpaksa meninggalkan sesi kerana komitmen sebelumnya dan menyerahkannya kepada jurutera Lew Hahn untuk menyelesaikan sesi.

1998–2000, 2002 Edit

In 1998, George and Moss put their differences aside and the band reunited to do a reunion tour, kicking off with a performance on Pencerita VH1. [14] George said about the reunion, "Culture Club's reunion couldn't have come at a better time for rock", adding that, "It's a nostalgia trip, there's no way of avoiding that." [14] The tour was a major success. Greatest Moments, a compilation album based around the Pencerita performance, was released, and went platinum in UK. It included new songs such as "I Just Wanna Be Loved", which hit UK No. 4. [15] [16] However, their new-found success was short-lived and their fifth studio album, Don't Mind If I Do, released in 1999, peaked at No. 64 in the UK. [17] It included minor UK hits in "Your Kisses Are Charity" (UK No. 25) and "Cold Shoulder" (UK No. 43). [17]

The band went on to tour, then reunited again for a 20th anniversary concert in 2002 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. [18] This performance was released on DVD the following year. [18] Culture Club then became inactive again, largely due to George's successful DJ career.

2006 Edit

In 2006, original members Craig and Moss tried to launch a new tour with another lead singer, as George and Hay had declined to tour. Early that year, the band's record company placed an ad for a lead singer to ". take part in a 2007 World Tour and TV Series." The new singer, Sam Butcher was selected because of his own personality, "not a Boy George lookalike." After watching a video on MySpace, George described the singer who replaced him as "terrible" and "dreadful". George said: "I wanted to like it but I couldn't. They're my songs, they're my heart, they're my life." [19] A proposed tour for December 2006 in the UK did not take place. In 2007, Moss stated that the project was shelved. [ rujukan diperlukan ]

2011 Edit

In late 2011, George was part of a three-man Culture Club band that performed two live concerts, in Dubai and Sydney, the latter being a New Year's Eve concert, although Moss did not appear due to a back injury. [20]

2014–present Edit

In 2014, the band reformed and announced a tour and a new album. A new picture of the four members was also posted on the band's official website, along with the list of the 11 UK concert dates. Alison Moyet was to have been a special guest on the tour. [ rujukan diperlukan ]

The band travelled to Spain for a two-week recording session. 18 new tracks were completed for a new album produced by Youth. The new album, entitled Puak, was scheduled for release in early 2015 on the band's own label Different Man Music (via Kobalt Label Services). At the end of that year the album had still not materialised.

On 19 July 2014, the band were among the line-up for a two-hour concert in Edinburgh Castle, ahead of the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Hay did not perform with the band because he was in recovery after having knee surgery. The band played two songs, "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" and "Karma Chameleon". [ rujukan diperlukan ]

In mid-November 2014, two days before the start of their 21-date US and UK tour, Culture Club announced they had to cancel the tour due to George suffering from a serious throat condition. The cancelled tour would have represented the full original line-up's first tour in 12 years. [21] [22] The North American tour was eventually rescheduled and started on 17 July 2015 in Canada. A television documentary, Boy George and Culture Club: Karma to Calamity, aired on BBC Four on 6 March 2015. The programme documented the band's reunion in 2014 and the making of their new album in Spain, up to the announcement to cancel the tour. [23] Based on the popularity of 2015's mini-tour, Culture Club began a 40-city summer tour in 2016, including dates in Australia, Japan, and the US. [ rujukan diperlukan ]

In August 2016, the band announced that the album Puak was permanently shelved, and offered refunds to all those who had pre-ordered the album online.

A reworked album called Kehidupan (credited to George & Culture Club) was finally released on 26 October 2018. [24]

In 2018, Culture Club toured the US and Europe from June to December. Digelar The Life Tour, the band toured in support of their namesake album, along with supporting acts The B-52s, Tom Bailey (formerly of The Thompson Twins) and Belinda Carlisle (Europe dates only). Jon Moss was originally part of the line-up, but did not participate in the European leg of the tour. A spokeswoman for Boy George confirmed: "Jon's taking a break from Culture Club but the door is open in the future." [25] In December 2019, Moss filed a writ at London's High Court naming the band trio as defendants. Moss' lawyers say he was told to "take a break" by manager Paul Kemsley, demanding nearly £200,000 in missing payments and a share of profits. [26]

Culture Club returned to the SSE Arena in Wembley on 19 December 2020 for a livestream concert, broadcast around the world, in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Bertajuk Rainbow in the Dark, the concert saw the band play their classic hits, new material, including a new ballad version of "Karma Chameleon", featuring Mila, and covers of T. Rex's "Get It On (Bang a Gong)" and George's solo cover of Bread's "Everything I Own".

4 of Our Favorite Musicians’ Favorite Drinks

As a music lover with a background in the drinks industry, I’m often left wondering what my favorite artists sip on. While most fans debate about which B-side the band will play live or what song they’ll cover for an encore, I’m waging a personal debate about what’s in the lead singer’s Solo cup.

With some artists, it’s easier to detect their preferred beverage. I’ve witnessed Brett Dennen enjoying some wine on stage, Band of Horses sipping beers in between songs, and legendary prog-rockers The Mars Volta partaking in some weird, steaming, brightly-colored concoction before and after destroying every guitar and mic stand in sight (no way it was just tea in there). Often times, though, the band keeps the drinking backstage, behind the curtains and way from adoring fans.

What does the performing class enjoy? It’s about as eclectic a favorite drinks list as the music they make. What we like to sip, like the sounds we run through our speakers, is a reflection of who we are and there’s no room for a one-size-fits-all approach.

Some musicians like a drink or two to get the creative juices flowing, whether it be trying to write a song in the wee hours or settling on a chord progression that will get the listener moving. Others pull something out of the cellar to celebrate a successful album or festival appearance. Some don’t even touch the stuff, having had their own battles with alcohol or being of a mind that their best work comes from a completely grounded mental state.

Kenneth Pattengale is one half of the California folk duo Milk Carton Kids. The guitarist and vocalist appreciates a good cocktail after an evening performance. One in particular, devised by Brandon Bramhall of Attaboy, captures his heart. It’s a take on an American classic, not unlike his group’s steeped-in-tradition sound.

Jessica Perez

“If you’re anywhere near Nashville or New York, the Turncoat is my platonic ideal of a Martini,” he says. “The way navy-strength gin blends with fino sherry, and a perfect proportion of sweet and dry vermouths, makes for the perfect accompaniment to a show well-performed.”

John Onstott is a multi-instrumentalist for brooding Oklahoma rockers Other Lives. The band’s sweeping, sometimes haunting tracks can carry you right off your feet. A few years back, the act toured with the esteemed likes of Radiohead and Bon Iver. It’s not entirely surprising that a group responsible for such a nuanced sound also likes a good, detail-driven wine.

“We try not to drink before we perform, but after a performance there’s nothing like a decent bottle of Norello Mascalese,” Onstott says. “The grapes are grown on the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily.”

The wines from this part of the world are known for their distinctive qualities, arising at least partially from sharing some topography with a famous volcano. Norello Mascalese is somewhat like Pinot Noir in its complexity and weight, a lighter red with tasting notes so extensive they spill right off the page.

Andy Shauf is a gifted musician from Canada. He’s fronted his own eponymous indie-folk-rock outfit as well as taken part in significant side projects like Foxwarren. The singer-songwriter likes to keep things simple and rooted to his native provincial home when it comes to imbibing.

Andy Shauf Colin Medley

“My go-to drink is a Molson pilsner, the unofficial beer of Saskatchewan” Shauf says. “They carry it at the Skyline and it’s a nice reminder of home in the big city.” The bar he’s referencing is in Toronto, his current home.

The beer makes a lot of sense in light of Shauf’s often minimalistic, but incredibly refreshing and evocative sound. His album Parti, released in 2016, remains a telling musical tale about one eventful evening, oscillating between quiet and observant and boisterous, backed by complex arrangements. The songs function like short films and dabble in the joys and horrors of drinking, something parties so often bring out. Shauf’s newest record, The Neon Skyline, largely unfolds before a bar backdrop. Impressively, he wrote, arranged, performed, and produced every track on the record. It’s a great unwinder, worthy of a cold one.

On the West Coast, in Portland, Oregon, Jeni Wren Stottrup plays soul and R&B-inspired music. The former Shy Girls member is now in charge of her own burgeoning solo career. On the side, the multi-instrumentalist and vocalist heads a music industry podcast called Gritty Birds.

She prefers a good glass of red wine after a day in the studio. “Usually a Cab blend that isn’t too spicy,” she says. “I work and produce from home, so coming out to my local wine bar keeps me semi-social. Plus it’s a nice warm segue from production life.”

Cliche would tell us that no guitar-wielding troubadour is ever too far from a bottle of Jack Daniels, but the musically inclined have palates that demand differently.

Giant oak headphones created by Bushmills

Bushmills has created the world’s largest set of barrel oak headphones to mark Bushmills Live 2014, which will be headlined by The 1975

Made by two local artists using almost a dozen giant whiskey barrels, the headphones stand at over 10 feet high and will play music from the Diageo-owned brand’s Bushmills Live 2014 music concert.

This creation follows the unveiling of a limited edition line of headphones made from Bushmills whiskey barrels by Hollywood actor-tuned-DJ Elijah Wood and his music partner Zach Cowie.

Taking place on 11-12 June, Bushmills Live 2014 will see 700 fans enjoy an array of whiskey and music at the Old Bushmills Distillery on the north coast of Ireland.

Bushmills Irish whiskey master distiller Colum Egan said: “We’re looking forward to throwing open the doors of the distillery and welcoming friends, old and new, to come and enjoy the handcrafted whiskey and music on offer at Bushmills Live 2014.”

The festival was launched in 2012 to cement the distillery’s association with the music industry, which has since seen other limited edition musical items created from Bushmills barrels.

In October 2012, Bushmills auctioned a guitar made from whiskey barrels, owned by Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon, for charity.

British band The 1975 have been announced as the festival’s headline act on 12 June.

“We’ve never played a show in a distillery before so it’s a first for us. We’ve gigged all over the place but to play a festival like this, in a setting as unique as this, will be pretty special,” said the band’s lead singer, Matthew Healy.

Kandungan

Jones was born Geethali Norah Jones Shankar on March 30, 1979, in Manhattan, New York, to American concert producer Sue Jones and Indian musician Ravi Shankar. [5] [6]

After her parents separated in 1986, Jones lived with her mother, growing up in Grapevine, Texas. As a child, Jones began singing in church and also took piano and voice lessons. She attended Colleyville Middle School and Grapevine High School before transferring to Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas. Her music took its first form early on in the local Methodist Church where she regularly sang solos. While in high school, she sang in the school choir, participated in band, and played the alto saxophone. At the age of 16, with both parents' consent, she officially changed her name to Norah Jones. [5] [15]

Jones always had an affinity for the music of Bill Evans and Billie Holiday, among other "oldies". She once said, "My mom had this eight-album Billie Holiday set I picked out one disc that I liked and played that over and over again." [16]

She attended Interlochen Center for the Arts during the summers. While at high school, she won the Pukul Turun Student Music Awards for Best Jazz Vocalist (twice, in 1996 and 1997) and Best Original Composition (1996). [17]

Jones attended the University of North Texas (UNT), where she majored in jazz piano and sang with the UNT Jazz Singers. During this time, she had a chance meeting with future collaborator Jesse Harris. She gave a ride to a band playing at the university whose members happened to be friends of Harris. He was on a cross-country road trip with friend and future Little Willies member Richard Julian, and stopped to see the band play. After meeting Jones, Harris started sending her lead sheets of his songs.

In 1999, Jones left Texas for New York City. Less than a year later, she started a band with Harris, and her recordings with them were bestsellers. [18]

Jones was a lounge singer before becoming a recording artist. [19] Before releasing her first album, she performed with Wax Poetic, Peter Malick, and jazz guitarist Charlie Hunter. [20] [21] [22]

2000–2001: Bandar New York, First Sessions Edit

As Peter Malick states in the liner notes, "I started looking for a singer who might be open to recording [my latest songs] for me. On a Tuesday night, I walked into the Living Room just as the singer announced the last song of the set. The Dinah Washington classic 'Since I Fell for You' filled the room and I was struck breathless. Here, in the tradition of Billie Holiday, was a stunningly beautiful, blues infused voice. This was my first contact with Norah Jones." [23] Malick asked her to participate in sessions at Room 9 from Outer Space in South Boston, Massachusetts, during August and September 2000. They recorded Malick's songs "New York City", "Strange Transmissions", "Deceptively Yours" and "Things You Don't Have to Do" in addition to cover versions of "All Your Love" by Sam Maghett and "Heart of Mine" by Bob Dylan. These songs became the album Bandar New York (Koch, 2003) by the Peter Malick Group Featuring Norah Jones. [23]

After moving to New York City, Jones signed to Blue Note, a label owned by EMI Group. The signing came as an indirect result of her performing as lead singer for the JC Hopkins Biggish Band. Shell White, who was the wife of J. C. Hopkins, worked for EMI Publishing and gave Jones's three-track demo to Bruce Lundvall, the label's president, and Brian Bacchus, its artists and repertoire agent (A&R). The demo contained two jazz standards and a song by Jesse Harris. The two executives agreed that Jones had potential. Despite their misgivings about the direction of her music, they signed her to the label. Bacchus told HitQuarters, "We let her find her own direction. We knew that if she could develop her songwriting and we could find great songs, it would work." [24]

2002: Come Away with Me Edit

Bacchus thought producer and engineer Jay Newland's experience in jazz, blues, rock, country, and folk music would give a "feeling for her sound." Jones and Newland recorded nine demo tracks. Four appeared on the sampler First Sessions (2001). The rest were set aside for her debut album. [24] Come Away with Me (2002) was praised for its blend of acoustic pop with soul and jazz. [25] Debuting at No. 139, it reached No. 1 on the U.S. Papan iklan 200. The single "Don't Know Why" hit No. 1 on the Top 40 Adult Recurrents in 2003 and No. 30 in the Papan iklan Hot 100 Singles Chart. At the 45th Grammy Awards in 2003, Jones was nominated for eight Grammy Awards and won five: Best New Artist, Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, Record of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for "Don't Know Why". This tied Lauryn Hill and Alicia Keys for most Grammy Awards received by a female artist in one night. Jesse Harris won Song of the Year for "Don't Know Why" while Arif Mardin won Producer of the Year. The album won Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. [10] Come Away with Me was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for having sold one million copies. For "Here We Go Again", a duet with Ray Charles, she won Record of the Year and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. [28] Masa magazine named Jones one of the most influential people of 2004. [29]

2007: Tidak Terlambat Edit

Jones released her third album, Tidak Terlambat, on January 30, 2007. The album was the first for which she wrote or co-wrote every song. She has said some of these songs are much darker than those on her previous albums. [30] Tidak Terlambat was mostly recorded at Jones' home studio. It is her first album without producer Arif Mardin, who died in the summer of 2006. Jones described the sessions as "fun, relaxed and easy" and without a deadline Blue Note executives reportedly did not know she was recording an album. The song "My Dear Country" is political commentary she wrote it before the United States Presidential election day in 2004. Tidak Terlambat reached the No. 1 position in twenty countries. Tidak Terlambat had the third-best first week of sales in 2007, behind Avril Lavigne's Perkara Sial Terbaik and Linkin Park's Minit hingga Tengah Malam. It reached No. 1 in the U.S., selling 405,000 copies. EMI announced that Tidak Terlambat reached gold, platinum or multi-platinum in 21 countries as of February 2007. [31] The album has sold 4 million copies worldwide. That same year she sang "American Anthem" for the Ken Burns documentary Perang. [32] [33]

2009: Kejatuhan Edit

Jones' fourth studio album, Kejatuhan, debuted at No. 3 on the Papan iklan 200 in November 2009, selling 180,000 copies in its first week. Although it was her first album that did not reach No. 1 in the United States it did receive critical acclaim. [34] As part of the promotional drive for the album, Jones performed on Menari dengan Bintang, Pertunjukan Lewat dengan David Letterman, Selamat Pagi Amerika and other television programs. Kejatuhan featured a St. Bernard on the cover his name is Ben. [35] The album's lead single, "Chasing Pirates", peaked at No. 13 on Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks and No. 7 on Jazz Songs. Papan iklan ' s 2000–2009 decade awards ranked Jones as the top jazz recording artist, at No. 60 best Artist. Datang dengan saya was elected the No. 4 album and No. 1 jazz album. Jones earned a platinum certification by the RIAA for sales of 1 million copies of Kejatuhan. The album sold 1.5 million copies worldwide and was certified gold or platinum in 14 countries as of 2010. "Baby, It's Cold Outside", a duet with Willie Nelson, was nominated in the Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals category. In 2009, Jones performed "Come Away With Me" and "Young Blood" at the end of the Apple Inc.'s It's Only Rock and Roll press conference on September 9 in San Francisco, for the release of iTunes 9 and video camera-equipped iPods, among other items [36] She also made a guest appearance and performed with other artists on the season three finale of the NBC series 30 Batu [37] Jones started her fourth world tour on March 5, 2010.

2012: Little Broken Hearts Edit

After working with Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi on some of the tracks for their album Rom, Jones worked with Danger Mouse again on her fifth studio album, Little Broken Hearts, which was released on May 1, 2012. She played the album in its entirety at SXSW 2012. [38] Penulis Lagu Amerika dipanggil Little Broken Hearts the "most dramatic and rewarding departure she's made in her career." [39] On May 25, 2012, she began her fifth world tour in Paris, with performances in Europe, North America, Asia, South America, and Australia. She performed in London at the Roundhouse on September 10, 2012, as part of the iTunes Festival which was broadcast on the internet. The tour started at Summer's Day in Mumbai on March 3 and included stops in New Delhi on March 5 and Bangalore on March 8.

2016: Pecah Hari Edit

Her sixth studio album Pecah Hari, which included nine new songs and three cover versions, was released on October 7, 2016. "Carry On", the album's lead single, was released to digital outlets on the same day. [13] The album marked a return to her piano after dabbling in folk and pop for the last two records. Jones said the goal of this record was to do everything live. She said in an interview with Papan iklan, "When you have great musicians, there's no reason to overdub. That strips the soul out of the music." [40]

2020: Pick Me Up Off the Floor Edit

Her seventh studio album Pick Me Up off the Floor was released June 12, 2020. It debuted at number 87 on the US Billboard 200, making it Jones' first album to not debut in the top three.

[53] [54] [55] On March 31, 2008, Jones commemorated the 20th anniversary of The Living Room with a midnight performance at the intimate Manhattan music venue where the singer got her start. She played a new song entitled "How Many Times Have You Broken My Heart" and explained that it originated from newly found Hank Williams lyrics she was asked to put to music. [54] Jones also performed the song in late 2008 on Elvis Costello's talk/music television series, Spectacle: Elvis Costello with. . [56] [57] [58]

Ward, and others. Jones said, "It's so exciting and flattering and fun when I get asked to sing with somebody that I admire. It takes you a little bit out of your comfort zone when you're doing something with another artist. You don't know what to expect—it's kind of like being a little kid and having a playdate." The 18-track Blue Note disc was released on November 16, 2010. [61]

Jones recorded a Christmas duet, "Home for the Holidays", with Cyndi Lauper.

As a tribute to Steve Jobs, Jones appeared on the Apple Campus in October 2011, performing "Nearness of You" and "Painter Song". She finished her live, three-song set by performing Bob Dylan's "Forever Young" in honor of Jobs, because "he liked Bob Dylan". [62]

The 1975 (2017)

Strange how a cover version can be one of the most talked-about songs of the entire month — but not too strange, given the parties involved. The 1975’s new release for the War Child charity pulls poptimism’s favorite rock band back into the forefront, filters Matthew Healey’s lead vocal through an Auto-Tuned ether frolic that’s as disorienting and elusive as Sade Adu’s voice is soothingly direct, and acknowledges the original’s prescience while updating it for a listenership interested in finding a commonality with Bon Iver and Chance The Rapper. It is the latest “By Your Side” cover it probably will not be the last.
